It can be truly heartbreaking to see a beautiful family photograph that someone tried to mend with scotch tape. Usually, such attempts result in more damage done to a photograph than if it were left in an unmended condition. With time, the tape yellows and cracks, while the adhesive penetrates the surface of the photograph, discoloring it and leaving marks that cannot be removed.
Fortunately, a talented restoration artist can save even such a severely damaged photograph.
After the old scotch tape was removed by applying selective heat and the appearance of stains reduced with the help of specially formulated solvents, the pieces of this vintage family studio portrait were rejoined using pH-neutral archival tape. With careful retouching, all the lost pieces were filled in and tears retouched to bring the photograph back to its original appearance.
From the customer's review:
Sebastian restored an old family portrait (1918) that had become faded and actually broken into pieces. This picture was in a fragile state and so I was concerned about turning it over to anyone. I was very impressed not only with Sebastian's artistic capabilities in performing a flawless restoration, but also with the care and concern he showed both about the photo itself as well as my satisfaction with the final result.
The picture came out perfect, better than I could have imagined; so much so that whenever someone in the family sees it they usually want a copy, and so I have been running back to Sebastian to have him frame additional copies for me. I highly recommend Sebastian and am thankful that I chose him for this project.
