A beautiful portrait of legendary acting coach Stella Adler perfectly illustrates what happens to a photograph if someone uses household chemicals to clean it. Sprayed onto the surface of the photograph, the cleaning solution intended to take care of the dusty furniture and dirty windows damaged the photo emulsion, creating an ugly stain and discoloration.
To prevent the chemical from causing more damage to the photograph, the print was washed with a special solution to remove the chemicals and clean away any remaining residue.
After being cleaned and dried, the photograph was scanned, and the digital file was exported into a photo editing application for retouching. The damaged area of the image was carefully retouched to remove any sight of the stain, and color correction was made to match and preserve the beautiful warm golden tone of the photograph.
With restoration completed, the photograph was printed, framed, and returned to its rightful location at the Stella Adler Studio of Acting in New York
