RESTORATION OF A PHOTOGRAPH DAMAGED IN A HOUSE FIRE

Shortly after Lindbergh's historic flight, on July 4th, 1929 two young aviators flew a daring mission to complete the first and only Air Mail delivery from Long Island to Fire Island.

Unfortunately, years later the unique photograph capturing the historic moment was damaged in a house fire. The edges of the photograph were charred, the surface was scratched and covered with dirt and soot, and burn marks.

After careful cleaning the photograph was scanned and retouched to remove the appearance of the damages. The resulting image was enlarged and printed to commemorate the important and unusual even in history of Long Island and the US Postal Service.

With careful retouching, all the lost pieces were filled in and tears retouched to bring the photograph back to its original appearance.
