On July 4th, 1929, shortly after Lindbergh's historic flight across the Atlantic Ocean, two young aviators flew a daring mission to complete the first and only US Air Mail delivery from Long Island to Fire Island .
Unfortunately, years later, the unique photograph capturing the historic moment was damaged in a house fire. The edges of the photograph were charred, the surface was scratched and covered with dirt and soot, and there were burn marks.
After careful cleaning, the photograph was photograph was scanned to remove the appearance of the damages. The resulting image was enlarged and printed to commemorate the important and unusual events in the history of Long Island and the US Postal Service.
