More than 16,000,000 Americans served in the Armed Forces during WWII. Over 400,000 made the ultimate sacrifice on the road to victory that eradicated the scourge of Nazism and brought freedom and peace to the people around the world.
Perhaps no other piece of American gear impressed the other side more than the Willys Jeep. Between 1941 and 1945, about 700,00 of these go-anywhere four-wheel-drive vehicles were produced, giving German soldiers the impression that each GI upon joining the ranks was issued a personal Jeep in addition to a uniform, boots, and rifle.
Many American servicemen became so attached to their faithful steeds that Jeeps were proudly and prominently featured in the photographs sent home from the frontlines.
A small snapshot of a squad of American G.I.s and their faithful Willys on the road to the Rhine was carefully retouched to remove folds, creases, and stains from the surface of the photograph. A light colorization was applied to the photograph to give it an additional vintage appearance.
